The Madrid Tigers Boys Basketball team’s first ever trip to the State Tournament ended with a 72-63 loss to defending champion and 2nd ranked North Linn. The Tigers fought hard throughout the game and actually got the lead cut to 5 in the 4th quarter, but too many free throws by North Linn and not enough shots would fall and the Lynx would move onto the semifinals. The Tigers were led by Kadyn Severson who had 21pts. The Lynx got 29pts from Mason Bechen and hit 14-20 from the free throw line, compared to 4-8 from the Tigers. Madrid ends their season at 22-3 (most wins in a season in school history) The Lynx improve to 25-0 and haven’t lost since December 21st, 2021. Madrid graduates 2 starters from this year’s team, but the hunger will be there next season to return to Des Moines.
