Diane Curran

BOONE, Iowa—Frances Diane Duffy Curran, 82, of Boone, Iowa, passed away on March 2, 2023, from pulmonary disease.

She was born June 20, 1940, the daughter of Regis and Gwen Duffy at the Boone County Hospital. On June 25, 1960, she married William Curran II at Sacred Heart Church in Boone, Iowa.

Diane attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and Boone High School, graduating in the class of 1958.

After graduation, she worked for Mahoney, Jordan, Statton, and Smith Law before starting her successful career in real estate with the Robert Ward Co., the Quam Agency, and lastly with the Nerem Firm. Diane received numerous state, national, and international awards for sales achievements in her real estate career.

She had a strong passion for giving back to the community, serving several years as president and member of the Boone County Board of Realtors, president of Boone’s Futures, served on the Boone Community School District advisory board, and the boards of the Boone Planning and Zoning Commission, DMACC Foundation, The United Way, Sacred Heart Parish Council, Boone County YMCA, and Boone Golf and Country Club.

Diane was talented and thoroughly enjoyed abstract painting, decorating, gardening, and dancing around the butcher block to ABBA.

Her greatest accomplishment was being a passionate wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, William II; daughter Kit of El Dorado Hills, CA; daughter Suzy (John) Vietor of El Dorado Hills, CA; son William III (Susan) of Portland, OR; daughter Holly (Chad) Sturtz of Naperville, IL; grandchildren: Griffin Sturtz of Providence, RI, Adam Sturtz of Indianapolis, IN, William Curran IV of Eugene, OR, Belen Curran of Portland, OR, Burke Vietor of El Dorado Hills, CA, and Hunter Vietor of El Dorado Hills, CA; brother and sister-in-law Steve and Jean Duffy of Boone, IA; sister-in-law Patricia Finley of Palm Desert, CA; sister-in-law Patricia Curran of Valley Center, CA; nephews Mike Finley of Portland, OR, and Matt Finley of Moraga, CA, and niece Molly Finley of Riverside, CA.

She is preceded in death by her parents Regis and Gwen Duffy; brother-in-law John Finley; nephew Shannon Finley, as well as, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visitation will be from noon until 2:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Boone, IA, with a funeral mass at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 10, 2023. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Cedar Pointe Golf Club, 601 South Cedar Street in Boone.

A private family burial will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Boone County Hospital Foundation and or Sacred Heart School.
