Posted on 10 March 2023 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—On March 8, Boone High School junior Lucy Hansen was named one of 15 finalists
nationwide for the America’s Next Great Intern award, presented by Rubin Education.

Students in the EDGE Advanced courses at Boone High School were given the opportunity to
enter into the contest. In the advanced course, students design an individual learning experience
through a project in collaboration with a teacher and a business partner, or complete an internship
and accompanying coursework. This semester, Hansen is interning at the Boone Chamber of
Commerce and Redeker’s Furniture.

As part of the America’s Next Great Intern application, Hansen submitted entries that demonstrate
professional skills such as a professional handshake, professional phone calls, collaboration,
resilience, and professional emails.

“We are incredibly proud that Lucy has earned this opportunity to receive professional recognition
and bolster her resume,” said Julie Trepa, Superintendent of Boone Community School District. “To
be named as a national finalist for this award is an achievement in itself, and we wish her the best
of luck in the remainder of the contest.”

Hansen is the only student from Iowa selected as a finalist. National finalists will receive gift
certificates, the chance to win a stipend for professional clothing, and the opportunity for a paid
virtual internship.

Voting for America’s Next Great Intern will open online on March 9 at https://rubineducation.com/vote/.
