BOONE, Iowa—Carolyn Ann Cottington, 88, passed away on March 8, 2023, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, IA.
Carolyn was born on April 3, 1934, to Alva and Dora Simonson in Stratford, IA, and graduated from Stratford High School. Carolyn worked in the Stanhope and Stratford banks after high school and married Merrill Cottington on September 19, 1954. They farmed and made their home in Stratford, and owned the H&R Block tax office in Boone and other locations.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband Merrill; her parents; and her siblings, Juanita Schleusener (Clarence Webbink, Floyd Schleusener), Doris (James) Ward, Kenneth Simonson, Duane Simonson, Marlowe (Bill) Ades, and Helen Marie (Robert) Lind; sisters-in-law, Darla Wilcox, Phyllis Cottington, and Irene Simonson. She is survived by her children, Nathan (Donna) Cottington of Ogden, IA, and Angela (Jerry) Zenk of Urbandale, IA; grandchildren, Curtis (Amanda) Cottington of Nevada, IA, Nicole Cottington of Urbandale, IA, Jacob (Molly Rockefeller) Zenk of Des Moines, IA, Ryan (Anna) Cottington of Gowrie, IA, Katelyn (Garrett) Gathman of West Des Moines, IA, and Benjamin Zenk of Des Moines, IA; great-grandchildren, Easton Cottington, Tatum Cottington, Laci Cottington and Cade Cottington; brothers-in-law, Nyle (Jan) Cottington of Ames, IA, Gary Cottington of Pella, IA, Charles Wilcox of Stratford, IA; and sister-in-law Donna Simonson of Odebolt, IA.
Private family services will be held. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, north of Stratford.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Eastern Star Masonic Home who provided excellent care of Carolyn for 14 years.
