BOONE, Iowa—A reported threat at Boone High School today has been unfounded. Boone Police Chief John Wiebold made this announcement:
At approximately 9:19 am, on March 21, 2023, the Boone County Communications Center took a call of an active threat at the Boone High School. Boone Police Officers responded as trained, and found that the call was a hoax. There have been a number of similar “swatting” calls throughout Iowa today.
The Boone Police Department was assisted by the Boone Fire Department, Boone County Sherriff’s Department, Ogden Police Department, and Boone County EMS.
The investigation into the source of the call is ongoing.
Some of the other school districts in Iowa receiving similar threats were Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Story and Polk Counties. The Iowa Department of Public Safety reported that calls began at 8:30 this morning in Clinton and spread across the state.
