BOONE, Iowa—Elisa (Martin) Huss, age 63 of Boone, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023 at Mary Greeley Medical Center, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born Elisa Jean Martin on September 10, 1959 in Boone, the daughter of Gerald and Donabelle (York) Martin. She graduated from Boone High School in 1978.
Elisa’s friends were in Millington, TN when they met a young military man named Mike Huss. Elisa took a trip out to Tennessee and did not return home. Elisa and Mike met in May of 1984 and were united in marriage on August 14, 1984. Elisa traveled with Mike wherever he was stationed for 10 more years then they returned to Elisa’s hometown of Boone.
Elisa and Mike built a life together in Boone. They adopted and raised four children, Brenden, Yasmeen, Adrianne and Jesse. Elisa was a stay-at-home mother and a giving community member.
Elisa was a member of Boone Open Bible Church where she was involved in the women’s ministry, food pantry, sewing group, the funeral luncheon committee and mission trips. She had a strong faith but clung to the word through her most recent battle with cancer; Elisa had sticky notes of scripture stuck on any and all surfaces in their home and listened to Life 107.1 daily.
Elisa was also a wonderful grandma! She adored her grandbabies and protected them like a fierce mama bear. Elisa would blast Baby Shark for the grandkids and do anything for them.
Elisa enjoyed camping, traveling especially cruises and quilting. She made quilts for Habitat for Humanity, providing a quilt for each member of the family with their new home, as well as for the elderly at the nursing homes. Elisa was creative in various avenues. She made jewelry (enough for each resident of Boone) and sold some at the local farmer’s market.
Elisa was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Mike; children, Brenden Huss, Yasmeen Arnold, Adrianne Huss and Jesse Huss; grandchildren, Jasen, Isabella, Amethyst and Delilah; siblings, Teresa (Paul) Isaacson, Jim (Lynn) Martin and Ron (Gloria) Martin; mother-in-law, Karen Jones; brothers-in-law, Steve Huss, Jim Huss and Dave Huss; sister-in-law, Paula (CJ) Salas; 3 aunts; 1 uncle; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets, with family present 6:00 until 7:00 P.M. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at the Boone Open Bible Church. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the funeral service. Cremation will take place following Elisa’s services.
