BOONE, Iowa—Kenneth (Kenney) Colvin, 87, of Boone, Iowa, passed away on April 14, 2023, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. He was born in Chanute, Kansas, on January 13, 1936, weighed 13 pounds, and was the 13th child in a family of 14-children. Sharon Anderson and Ken were married for 40 years. From this union, they were blessed with five boys and one daughter. After Sharon’s death, his special friend and wife Barbara were together for 25 years.

Ken is remembered for his Blue #6 race car, his love for Harleys, motorcycle trips with special friends, always being at the kid’s ball games, and his love for camping and fishing with the family. Ken had built bridges for a living, then spent 39 years driving trucks, of which 30 years was as a Teamster. He retired at age 56 from Boone Freight, giving him time to enjoy the KC Chiefs, KC Royals, and NASCAR.

Ken is preceded in death by his parents, William Howard Colvin and Bessie Williams Colvin; 12 siblings; wife, Sharon; daughter, Debbie and Son, Audie.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; four sons: Curt (Dennice), Chris (Melody), Scott (Heather), and Darin (Jan); as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews; sister, Louise Edgerle, and sister-in-law, Joan Colvin both of Kansas. Ken was a friend to everyone and had a great sense of humor that will be missed.

One thing that broke Ken’s heart was the loss of his puppies and constant companions, Misty 1, Misty 2, and Skippy. They took a chunk out of his life at their passing.

Ken is now a shining star looking down on all who knew him and loved him and still do.

The whole family wants to thank Dr. Mehlhaus of Boone Family Medicine; Dr. Filipiak of Boone Family Medicine; Dr. Gallagher of Urology Center of Iowa; and the terrific staff and emergency crew at the Boone County Hospital. Also, the never-ending and wonderful care given to him in ICCU and on the 4th floor of Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. They are such blessed and caring people.

Per Ken’s request, Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Boone is handling the disposition of his cremated remains. No services are planned at this time. A Celebration of Life will be arranged for a later date.

Memorials can be directed to the family to use at their discretion, and can be sent to C/O Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 116, Boone, Iowa 50036.
