Boone CSD Awarded Summer Youth Internship Program Grant

Posted on 01 May 2023 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone Community School District has received $23,315 as part of Iowa’s Summer Youth Internship Program funding.

The program offers financial support to employers, educational institutions, and nonprofit organizations that sponsor meaningful internship programs for Iowa youth aged 14-24. At Boone CSD, this grant will help support the Boone EDGE Summer Youth Internship.

The Boone EDGE Summer Youth Internship is a six-week project that will place up to 15 students in internships with local partners in welding, electrical, construction, agriculture, manufacturing, and automotive technician and repair careers. The project partners with Iowa Jobs for America’s Graduates (iJAG) and Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services. It has been developed with the support of the Ames Chamber of Commerce, Ames Economic Development Commission, and IowaWORKS in Boone and Story Counties.

Additionally, the district will partner with the Central Iowa WIOA Title I Youth Program, offering eligible participants in the Summer Youth Internship Program with continued support following the six-week program. Students will gain on-the-job training and skills for careers of interest.

“We are honored to receive this funding to grow and expand our internship resources,” said Julie Trepa, Superintendent of Boone CSD. “The Summer Youth Internship Program grant will empower us to offer career exploration and development opportunities for students for the third summer in a row, and we look forward to working with our community partners to bring this year’s program to fruition.”
