BOONE, Iowa—The Boone Memorial Day Ceremony drew a nice crowd Monday morning. Excellent weather conditions did not hurt at all. The Boone Memorial Day Ceremony was held at the G.A.R. Plot in the Linwood Park Cemetery. The program was presented by the Boone Veterans Council and featured a reading of General Logon’s Orders, laying of poppies and wreaths by the Daughters of the American Revolution, the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary.
The guest speaker in Boone was Shawn Bryant, Master Sergeant (Retired) and currently a Boone County Supervisor. Bryant at the beginning of his talk told about about ramp ceremonies in Afghanistan, sending bodies of deceased soldiers home and asked people to honor the memories of those that lost their lives.
The program was emceed by Fred Greiner, the Invocation and Benediction were presented by John Snedden. The Color Guard, Firing Detail and Taps were all provided by the Boone Veterans Council.
