BOONE, Iowa—A watermain break in Boone Tuesday morning has led to the City Water Department issuing a Boil Order for those in the affected distribution area:
The City of Boone Water Supply is recommending to boil the water before using for drinking or to use an alternative source
The City of Boone Water Supply had a problem in the distribution system. The system lost pressure on Monday, May 30, 2023 at 8:30 am. Due to the potential for bacterial contamination, it is being recommended that the water be boiled before using for drinking or cooking or that an alternative source be used. The Area affected is contained to the following properties; 528 Crawford, 516 Crawford, 508 Crawford, 504 Crawford, 515 5th, 516 5th, 428 Crawford, 422 Crawford, 414 Crawford, 410 Crawford, 505 Mamie, 409 Crawford, 415 Crawford, 421 Crawford, 427 Crawford, 416 5th, 425 5th, 515 Crawford, 521 Crawford, 527 Crawford, 426 6th, 422 6th, 416 6th, 412 6th, 404 6th, 522 Monona, 518 Monona, 518 Monona, 510 Monona, 505 Monona, 410 Monona, 406 Monona, 405 Monona, 409 Monona, 413 Monona, 421 Monona, 427 Monona, 320 5th, 321 5th, 505 Monona, 509 Monona, 515 Monona, 521 Monona, 527 Monona, 331 6th, 327 6th, and 500 7th. All properties effected will receive a copy of this Document.
IT IS RECOMMENDED NOT TO DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST.
Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. The water may be used for bathing and other similar purposes. For more information, please contact Waylon Andrews, Public Works Daily Operations Manager at 515-298-2253. General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection by microbes are available from the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1(800) 426-4791. When water service is restored, there may be air in your water piping and the water may be discolored. It is recommended to run the first water from a faucet that does not have an aerator screen, such as a bathtub or hose bib. Open the faucet slowly to allow the air to escape. Once the water is flowing, allow the faucet to run until it is clear. The water may be cloudy at first due to air in the water or particles that dislodged as the pipes filled with water. This should clear fairly quickly. If water is cloudy throughout the house and it does not clear after allowing the water to run for several minutes, contact the person listed above. The system has been repaired, repressurized, and bacteria samples will be collected. This advisory is a precaution until bacterial sample results are available. You will be notified when the results are available and the advisory is lifted. The system is working with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to resolve the situation. This notice is being sent to you by the City of Boone Water Supply.
