MADRID, Iowa—The Iowa Arboretum and Gardens formally broke ground on its highly anticipated “Treehouse Village” Thursday morning. The project is the result of a long term commitment from the Arboretum Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, the community and the State of Iowa. Mark Schneider, Director of the Iowa Arboretum and Gardens said the Master Plan process began over six years ago and provided direction on needs and ideas to meet those needs. Schneider in his remarks said it absolutely needed a buy from the Board of Directors. That led to a Capital Campaign that raised $1.7 million of the $2 million goal. The lead gift was made by Adele and Dean Bowden with additional support from numerous sources. Capital Campaign Chairperson, Don Draper noted that the board itself has pledged $200,000.

“Treehouse Village” is being constructed by Beanstalk Builders from North Carolina. Construction is expected to take about four months. The infrastructure, sidewalks and pathways will be constructed after Beanstalk Builders have completed their work. It’s expected to be available to the public in 2024.
