AMES, Iowa—Myra Katherine Nell, age 87, of Ames died on Monday, July 3, 2023 at Northcrest Community.
Funeral Services will be held at Memorial Lutheran Church, 2228 Lincoln Way, Ames, Iowa on Friday, July 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. in Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone, Iowa.
Myra was born on September 10th, 1935 in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of John and Pauline (Murken) Nell. She was baptized September 29th, 1935 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Boone, Iowa. Attending the elementary Lutheran School in rural Boone through eighth grade, she was confirmed April 2nd, 1950. Graduating from Boone High School in 1954, she went to college graduating from Concordia, Seward, Nebraska in 1958. She received a Master’s Degree in Education at Drake University in 1965.
Myra was a school teacher for 38 years- three years at Immanuel Lutheran School, St. Louis, Missouri – three years at Concordia College, Ann Arbor, Michigan- eight years for the Long Beach Unified School District Long Beach, California – 22 years for the Ames Community School District, Ames, Iowa.
She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. Her special interests were church activities, sports, travel, gardening and reading.
Myra was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers Edmund, Donald, and Orville Nell. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Marcella Nell of Boone; her two nephews, David Nell of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Bruce Nell and his wife, Nanette of Fayetteville, Georgia; her niece, Barbara Nelson of Johnston, Iowa; her two great nieces, Christy Quirk and her husband, PJ of Durham, North Carolina and Jennifer Burke and her husband, Eli of Athens, Georgia; her great nephew, Bradley Nelson of Johnston, Iowa; her great niece, Abbey Nelson of Seattle, Washington and her great-great nephew, Felix Burke of Athens, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Memorial Lutheran Church in memory of Myra.
