- Junker will receive a $10,000 scholarship that will be divided in four payments of $2,500 for each semester at the University of Northern Iowa, where she will be earning her bachelor’s degree in Accounting through the UNI@DMACC hybrid program.
- She was required to submit a 60 second video along with an essay to be eligible for the scholarship.
- Junker also participated recently at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) National Leadership Conference at Atlanta, GA, where her and the DMACC Chapter competed against over 800 college students nationwide.
DMACC Accounting student Emily Junker of Ankeny is the latest DMACC student to receive a $10,000 RSM Scholarship open to all accounting students nationwide.
Last year, three DMACC graduates—Vedad Kavazovic of Des Moines, Lundin Morris of Grimes and Noah Adelmund of Nevada—were among the ten students nationwide to receive the $10,000 RSM Scholarship. With Junker’s scholarship, the four DMACC students who have received the RSM Scholarships over the past two years means DMACC has had the largest number of students from one college or university in the nation to receive that many scholarships.
The RSM “Power Your Transition” scholarship was created in the hopes of getting more students to enter the accounting profession.
“I am thrilled that DMACC has another RSM “Power Your Transition” scholarship winner this year,” said RSM US LLP Partner Rodney Foster. “Emily is now the fourth DMACC accounting student to receive one of these $10,000 scholarships. There are only 10 winners annually in the United States so this is wonderful accomplishment for Emily. The success of DMACC’s students in this scholarship application process is a testament to the quality of DMACC’s Accounting program, the dedication of the professors and the talent of the students.”
With the UNI@DMACC partnership that allows DMACC students to complete their bachelor’s degree in accounting fully online, students like Emily will join the field right after graduation, and even graduate with jobs lined up thanks to the numerous internships offered across Des Moines and Iowa.
“Now that there is the UNI@DMACC partnership available for DMACC Accounting majors, I think students like Emily will see nothing but increased scholarship, internship and fulltime job opportunities in the future,” Foster said. “As a matter of fact, Emily will be entering the UNI@DMACC program this Fall and yes, she already has excepted an internship next Spring with RSM. The future is bright for all DMACC Accounting majors, we just need more of them.”
