BOONE, Iowa—Sandra J. Peterson, 87, passed away Friday, August 25, 2023 at the Madrid Home in Madrid.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, Boone. Visitation will be held one hour before the service on Tuesday. Burial will be in Bass Point Cemetery, Boone.

Sandra was born in Boone on August 13, 1936, the daughter of Avrill and Ruby (Godwin) Browning.

Sandra was united in marriage to Robert Peterson on July 8, 1956, in Boone. She was employed for 13 years at Archway Cookies in Boone.

Sandra always stayed busy with canning, baking, gardening, doing word searches, crocheting afghans and scarves for all her family, and she was especially known for Christmas candy. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Dennis Peterson in 1989; husband of nearly 60 years, Robert Peterson in 2016; and brother, Bill Browning.

Sandra is survived by her three daughters, Rhonda (Steve Tucker) Peterson, Becky (Joe) Schwarzhoff and Luanna Peterson; five grandchildren, Cory (Lillian Schlick) Schwarzhoff, Rocky Anderson, Danyel Patten, Valerie (Weston) Zrust, and Jeremiah (fiancée, Tia Cheville) Wetherby; five great-grandchildren, Tori VanHoff, Briana Schwarzhoff, Teigan Patten, Kenneth Patten, and Caleb Wetherby; three sisters, Sheila (John) Campbell, Donna Rodgers, and Marsha (Leonard) Springer; and her special furry companion, Cady.
