BOONE, Iowa—Susan Kay Slight of Boone died on September 9, 2023, at Westhaven Community, surrounded by her family. She was born February 10, 1942, the daughter of Lyle and Sylvia (Smith) Butler. Susan graduated from Madrid High School in 1960. On April 8, 1967, she was united in marriage to Lyndon Slight. Together, in Boone, Iowa, they raised their three children: Michael, John, and Tamra.
Susan’s greatest joy in life was being with her family. Almost every Sunday evening, the entire family would get together at Susan’s home to eat, laugh, play games, and watch a sporting event on television. She loved being around people and would talk your ears off.
For over five years, Susan has been a resident at Westhaven Community, living right next door to her older sister, Barbara. Susan has made many wonderful friends and considers the staff at Westhaven as part of her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lyndon, daughter Tamra, sister Joanne, and her parents.
She is survived by her sons: Michael (Brenda) Slight and John Slight; and sister, Barbara Butler; grandchildren: Madelyn (Tyler) Wisecup, Mollie Frazier, Makenna Slight, Joseph (Samantha) Slight, Brett Slight, Emma (Sam) Wells, Dianna Slight (fiancé Cannon Ridgeway); and six great-grandchildren.
A private family graveside service will be at Fairview Cemetery in Madrid at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the family to use at their discretion.
