Downtown Boone Steering Committee Plants Trees

Posted on 18 September 2023 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—Members of the Downtown Boone Steering Committee, city officials, and volunteers gathered Monday to plant some trees in downtown Boone. The Steering Committee is hoping to be designated a Main Street Community in 2024 and the tree planting was recommended from the Iowa Economic Development Authority team that visited Boone and conducted an assessment last April. The Downtown Steering Committee was recently awarded a grant from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Forestry Section to help with some of the cost, but the committee is still raising additional funds to cover costs like maintenance and pruning for at least 3 years. And to acquire metal grates to be placed around the base of the trees. Those wishing to support the effort are welcome to donate at www.boonecountychamber.com/downtown-boone. A total of 29 trees of multiple varieties were planted.
