BOONE, Iowa—Marvin Wayne Saathoff, 85, of Boone, IA, passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born near Ackley, IA, on December 18, 1937, the son of Henry and Clara (Kreimeyer) Saathoff. He graduated from Ackley High School in 1956 and worked at the Macy Grain Elevator. In June 1959, he married Barbara Jo Green of Alden, IA. He worked at the grain elevator in Blairsburg, IA, as assistant manager; Garden City, IA, as manager; Boxholm, IA, as manager; and Colo, IA, as manager. After leaving the elevator business he became the branch manager of the Colo office of the State Bank & Trust Co. of Nevada, IA, and was also the manager of the Colo Insurance agency that was at that same location. Upon retiring after 20 years at the bank he worked part time selling real estate for First Haley Realty in Nevada, IA.
He was active in the Colo community and managed the Colo Senior Housing for 10 years. He was involved in Pheasants Forever (Story County IA chapter) for many years and was one of the founding members of that organization. He was fervently interested in wildlife causes and conservation, loved fishing, and in earlier years, pheasant hunting. He enjoyed photographing and feeding the birds. He was active in the Nevada Baptist Church for many years and the Berean Baptist Church of Boone.
Left to cherish his memory are the love of his life, Barbara, son Scott (Beth) of Livonia, MI; a daughter, April (Jeff) Sparks of Altoona, IA; granddaughters Cherish Saathoff of Livonia, MI; and Brianna (Dakota) Keul of Pleasant Hill, IA; brother-in law and sister-in-law, Gerald and Virginia Claude of Alden, IA; and brother-in law and sister-in-law, Rodney and Cheryl Green of Des Moines, IA.
A private family burial will take place at Hazel Green Cemetery in rural Ackley, Iowa. Memorials are suggested to the family to be used at their discretion.
