BOONE, Iowa—Corrine Backman, 97, of Boone, Iowa, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Westhaven Community in Boone, with family by her bedside.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, October 12, 2023, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Wynot, Nebraska.

Corrine was born in Troy, Alabama, on October 17, 1925, the daughter of Frank and Cordie Durden. She was united in marriage to Albin J. Backman at Fort Bragg, North Carolina in 1944. To this union two children were born, Jerry and Shirley. They made their home in Wynot, Nebraska, where Albin was a mechanic and Corrine worked as a cook.

In 1995, Corrine moved to the Boone area to be closer to her family. She took care of everybody and enjoyed cooking for them all.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albin in 1994; son, Jerry in 2022; two sisters and three brothers.

Corrine is survived by her daughter-in-law, JoNell Backman of Ogden, IA; daughter, Shirley Roberts of Boone, IA; grandchildren, Shari (Steve) Brennan of Washington State, Brenda (Jim Meldrem) Backman of Story City, IA, Neil (Sharon) Promes of Yankton, SD; Clayton (Marti) Roberts of Albuquerque, NM; Trevor (Peg) Roberts of Leavenworth, KS; and Taylor (Saundra) Roberts od San Diego, CA; great-grandchildren, Josh Brennan of St. Cloud, MN, Samantha (Luke) Sondermayer of Washington State, Jacob, Alivia, and Isabell Westergarrd of Yankton, SD, and Madison Promes of Yankton, SD; Morgan and Rowan Roberts of Albuquerque, NM; Katlin Roberts of Kansas City, KS; Hunter Roberts of CA; Tatiana, Greg, and Tavo Roberts all of San Diego, CA; and two great-great-grandsons, Sawer Jerry Sondermayer of Washington State and Easton Roberts of Kansas City, KS.
