Walter “Bob” Shuey

BOONE, Iowa—Walter Robert “Bob” Shuey, 87, of Boone, passed away Monday, October 16, 2023, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, November 3, 2023, at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, Boone. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, November 2, 2023, at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Linwood Park Cemetery, Boone, with full Military Honors by the Boone Veterans Council.

Bob was born March 28, 1936, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Walter L. and Margaret (DeVoogd) Shuey. He graduated from Boone High School in 1956. Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force in the fall of 1956, and was honorably discharged in 1960.

Bob was united in marriage to JoAnn Peter on June 3, 1967, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone. They made their home in Boone. He worked at Lawson Grocery for 15 years before 25 years with Archway Cookies and retired in 1998. Bob also worked in communications for the Iowa National Guard in Ames for a number of years.

Bob enjoyed model trains, puzzles and word searches. He most of all loved spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Debra Shuey; two brothers, Elmo Shuey and Kenneth Shuey; and four sisters, Lois Ades, Ruth McPherson, Bev Clam and Mary Sundahl.

Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years, JoAnn Shuey of Boone; two daughters, Kathy (Michael) Tracy of Chillicothe, MO, and Carol Shuey of LuVerne, IA; two grandchildren, John (Faith) Betts IV of Livermore, IA, and Annabel Shuey of LuVerne, IA; great-grandson, Theo Sells of Livermore, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left to Bob’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com
