New Year’s Day Fire Destroys Madrid Home

MADRID, Iowa—The Madrid Fire Department responded to a house fire Monday afternoon about 5:15 at 1805 “R” Avenue, a mile west and a mile south of Luther. Boone County records show the home is owned by Eric and Sarah Long.

The Madrid Fire Department received mutual aid assistance from Boone, Woodward, Slater, and Huxley Fire Departments, Boone County Search and Rescue, Boone County Hospital Ambulance, Boone County Sheriff’s Department, the Iowa State Patrol, Boone Area Humane Society and Boone County Emergency Management.

In a statement on the Boone County Emergency Management Facebook page, thanks was also extended to the Boone McDonald’s for providing food for the fire fighters and personnel at the scene.

Additional details about the fire, including the cause, were not available at this time.
