BOONE, Iowa—Paul F. Bartley, 88, of Boone, Iowa, passed away at his home in Boone on Thursday, January 11, 2024. He was born on December 28, 1935, in Jefferson, Iowa, the son of Frank and Josephine (Fonken) Bartley.
Paul graduated from Jefferson High School, and then enlisted in the Air Force. He was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, South Dakota. On September 14, 1957, he married Joy Iola Hedges at the United Methodist Church in Scranton, Iowa. The family moved to Jefferson on June 28, 1959. Paul served in the Iowa National Guard for over 20 years. He also worked at Pete and Paul’s Gas Station, and was a lifetime utility foreman with Iowa Electric/Alliant Energy.
Paul was an active coach in youth sports, a member of the city council, and volunteered countless hours planting and trimming trees for the local Johnny Appleseed group.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joy; parents; siblings: Delores Dennhardt, Marvel Newell, Evelyn Leedom, Duane Bartley, Gail Bartley, Jean Wetzel, Frankey Anderson, and Rosie Beaman. Paul is survived by his daughter, Lea Bartley of Ames, IA; son, Nick Bartley of Boone, IA; son, Lance (Shannon) Bartley of Harlan, IA; eight grandchildren: Ronika (Josh) Mann, Godric Garcia, Nicole Bartley, Kelsey Bartley, Nicholas Bartley, Macy Bartley, Jacob Bartley, and Brenden Bartley; four great-grandchildren: Bryant Garberding, Riley Anderson, Madi Mann, and Jaxson Mann; sisters-in-law: Karen (Joe) Jackson, JoAnne (John) Smith, and Arlis Bartley; brother-in-law, Dick Leedom; many nieces, nephews, as well as other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Burial will take place at the Jefferson Cemetery, Jefferson, Iowa with Military Honors.
