BOONE, Iowa—Boone County authorities have released additional information about Saturday night’s fire at 161 270th Street, southwest of Ogden. Sheriff Andy Godzicki Monday afternoon reported that 70 year old William Collins of rural Ogden was transported from the scene for medical evaluation. He also reported that unfortunately the body of a deceased male was recovered from the scene and the preliminary investigation indicates the identity of male is 60 year old Eldon Kirkland of rural Ogden. Godzicki reported the home was a complete loss. The investigation is continuing.
Agencies were dispatched to the scene of the fire at 11:43 Saturday night. Air temperature at the time was estimated at -6° to -8° with wind chill estimated at -20° to -30°. The Ogden Fire Department responded with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department. Ogden Fire called for mutual aid from both the Boone and Perry Fire Departments. Both the Boone County Ambulance and Dallas County EMS were also at the scene with Condon’s Service, Boone County Emergency Management and the State Fire Marshall. Fire fighters were challenged by equipment freezing up in the cold weather.
