BOONE, Iowa—Robert G. Carper III, 76, of Boone, Iowa, passed away on January 24, 2024. He was born May 23, 1947, to Robert G. Jr. and Betty J. Carper of Boone.
Bob was a graduate of Boone High School class of 1965. After graduating, he attended Iowa State University for a short period of time before following in his father’s footsteps and enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. He served during the Vietnam War from 1967-1972.
Upon returning home, he was a loyal Fareway Grocery Store employee from March 1972 to June 2011, driving a truck for over 39 years. He amassed many friends and acquaintances along his routes. Bob was a lifetime resident of Boone before moving to Northcrest retirement community in 2023.
He enjoyed spending most of his retirement working outside on his acreage, trimming trees, feeding the birds, and caring for his three cats, simply named Number 1, Number 2, and of course, Number 3. Bob was very quiet and reserved. He was artistic, an avid reader, and a music collector spanning decades of 8-track tapes, vinyl records, and CDs. He will be remembered as a very self-reliant, independent soul, always helping others when needed.
Bob is survived by two sisters, Lynne (Dallas) Jordan, and Margie (Bill) Townsend; two brothers, Randy (Theresa) Carper, and Rick (Marife) Carper; and several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed.
A private family service will be held later in the spring of 2024.
