Two Candidates on Ballot for Special Election

BOONE, Iowa—There are two candidates on the ballot for the upcoming Special Election to fill a vacancy on the Boone City Council. There are nearly two years remaining on the Third Ward City Council seat, previously held by Eli Stines. Stines vacated the seat when he took over the first of the year as Boone’ s Mayor. The Council voted to 5-to-1 to hold a special election rather than appoint someone to fill the vacancy. Tracy Anderson, who finished second in the voting in the Boone Mayor’s race last November residents in the Third Ward and announced early that he would be running for the vacant seat. Nominating papers were also filed by Lisa Kahookele. Both had enough valid signatures. The Special Election will be held March 5th. Only voters in the Third Ward will be able to vote.

The Auditor’s office expects to have a sample ballot available soon. In person voting at the Auditor’s office should begin this week and will continue until March 4th. The last day to request a ballot be mailed out is February 19th. Voter pre-registration for those that need to update their information have until Monday, February 27th. However voter registration can be done at the polls with appropriate documentation.

Voting in the Special Election at the polls will be March 5th from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the First Evangelical Free Church at 1407 Kate Shelley Drive.
