BOONE, Iowa—Clyde L. Chelsvig, 93, of Boone, Iowa, passed away at Westhaven Community in Boone on Saturday, March 23, 2024. He was born on May 18, 1930, in Kelley, Iowa, the son of Porter and Levina (Ryg) Chelsvig. On August 7, 1954, he married Margene Erickson at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kelley, Iowa.
Clyde worked at the Atomic Energy Commission in Ames, Iowa. He graduated from the University of
Northern Iowa with a degree in teaching. He then taught in Springville, Iowa, and Boone Community
Schools until his retirement. He was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone. Clyde enjoyed
woodworking and working in the yard.
Clyde was preceded in death by his wife, Margene Chelsvig; granddaughter, Nicole Peterson; and
siblings: Stella Ryan, Orvis, Robert, and Ronald Chelsvig.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary (Brent) Peterson of Cherokee, IA; son, John (Cathy) Chelsvig of
Urbandale, IA; daughter, Sue Chelsvig of Red Oak, IA; grandchildren: Margaret Chelsvig of Washington, D.C.; Billy Chelsvig of Munich, Germany; Libby Chelsvig of Iowa City, IA; and Natalie Peterson of Las Vegas, NV.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Augustana Lutheran Church in
Boone, with Pastor Robin Coughennower officiating. Visitation with the family present to greet friends
will be prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church. Interment
will be at Bethany Cemetery in Kelley, Iowa, at 2:00 p.m. following a luncheon at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone.
