AMES, Iowa—Judy Kay Wheeler, 76, of Ames, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 6, 2024 at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
Judy was born March 2, 1948, in Ames, the daughter of Thayne and Mildred (Lafferty) Evans. She graduated from Nevada High School and then from AIB in Des Moines.
Judy worked for seven years for the Iowa Highway Commission in Ames, before having her two children, Brandi and Nick. Once the children were older, Judy started working again, and she was employed by Merry Maids in Ames. This is when she met Rickie Wheeler, and they were united in marriage on June 5, 1989, in Ames. She was baptized in 2001.
Judy and Rickie owned and operated J&R Cleaning Teams for 10 years. She retired at the age of 62. Judy was a very caring person, who liked to read, anything Avon, listen to music and recordings from Pastor David Myers. Family was very important to Judy and loved keeping them close and visiting her son in Jefferson, as much as she could.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, Richard Evans; and in-laws, Richard and Edith Wheeler.
Judy is survived by her husband of 34 years, Rickie Wheeler of Ames; daughter, Brandi Wilson of Boone; son, Nick Wilson of Jefferson; two grandchildren, Kessa Streiff and Dane Streiff both of Boone; son-in-law, Kevin Streiff of Boone; brother, Gary (Jane) Evans of Nevada; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday, May 13, 2024, at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, Boone. Funeral service is at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Boone Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Boone.
