BOONE, Iowa—The Boone City Council has voted to not adopt an Urban Chicken Ordinance. The action was taken during the Boone City Council meeting Monday evening, following a recommendation by the Policy, Administration, and Employee Relations Committee to not adopt the ordinance. Committee Members Linda Williamson and David Byrd voted not to support the proposed ordinance as a result of public feedback received in the past couple of weeks. Council member Lisa Kahookele preferred to move forward with the ordinance due to feedback received from constituents.

The Urban Chicken Ordinance was the last matter requiring action on the Council’s Agenda Monday. Council Member Cory Henson quickly moved to not adopt the ordinance, quickly seconded by Council Member Kyle Angstrom. Following a time for members of the public to make comments, all but one supporting adoption of the ordinance and comments supporting the ordinance from Mayor Eli Stines, Henson, Angstrom, Williamson, Byrd and Council Member Terry Moorman voted not to proceed with adoption of the ordinance, while Kahookele and Kole Hilsabeck supported adoption of the ordinance.
