BOONE, Iowa—Craig Fredrick Wear, 61, of Boone, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home in Boone, Iowa, on Friday, May 24, 2024. He was born on March 14 (Pi Day) 1963, in Ames, Iowa, the son of Fredrick and Sharon Wear (Olson). On November 25, 1989, he married Jennifer Harder at the Unitarian Church in Eau Clair, Wisconsin. He was a graduate of Parkway North High School in St. Louis County, Missouri, and from Sioux Falls College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Craig was a member of the Delmar Baptist Church of St. Louis, Missouri. He was a writer, poet, disk jockey, and for the past decade, the best short-order chef in Boone, Iowa. Craig, along with Patrick Isles were the barbeque champions in many contests. He was generous to a fault, often sharing his house with others until they could find their own place.
He was a friend to all.
Craig is preceded in death by his brother, Brian Wear; nephew, Brendan Wear; maternal grandparents, Harold and Katherine Olson; and paternal grandparents, J.W. and Donna Wear.
He is survived by his former wife, Jennifer (Harder) Wahl; former wife, Tammy Earll; son, Tyler (Elora) Wear of Chicago, IL; son, Hunter Wear of Reeds Springs, MO; son, Tucker Wear of Reeds Springs, MO; brother, Keith Wear of Colorado Springs, CO; parents, Fred and Sharon Wear of St. Louis, MO; niece, Katherine Wear of Gastonia, NC; nephew, Justin Wear of Savannah, GA; as well as several cousins, aunts and uncle.
Craig generously donated his body to the University of Iowa for medical research and training.
A Celebration of Life will be at 2:00 p.m. on July 9, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Boone, Iowa. Please wear colorful clothing; the service is a Celebration of Life. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will follow the service in the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. There will be a Celebration of Life wake at 5:00 p.m. at Toby K’s Hideaway, 1723 Mamie Eisenhower Avenue, Boone, Iowa.
Family and friends are invited and welcome at all events.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church in Boone to use for new equipment in the kitchen, or the family requests that you plant a tree in Craig’s memory.
