BOONE, Iowa—Ardith A. Hammond, 87, took her final breath of this world as she stepped into heaven to be reunited with family, friends and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 24, 2024. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother (known as nana), great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was the daughter of Maurice and Alice Burton of Ogden, Iowa, and wife of the late Robert L. Hammond whom she was married to for 65 years. She resided the majority of her life in Boone, Iowa, where she was busy raising her family, working and being active in many organizations and her church, First United Methodist Church. Recently she was a resident of Westhaven Community where she attended church and devotionals.

Her greatest joy came from watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their various activities. If she wasn’t able to attend, you were definitely going to get a call to get the details. A quick phone call or visit would always bring a smile to her face, especially if you brought her favorite treat -Peanut Butter Cup Blizzard.

Besides being the biggest fan of her family, she was also a fan of women’s basketball, the Iowa State Cyclones were her favorite. Recently, she became a fan of the WNBA, particularly the Indiana Fever and Caitlin Clark, even though she was a Hawkeye, she loved to watch a fellow Iowan. If she wasn’t watching sports with her family, she usually called them at some point to discuss the game, good or bad.

She cherished the friendships she made over the many years and held those individuals close to her heart. Some were formed in grade school. Greatest of those friendships was the one she had with her brother, Bob and his wife, Judy. These bonds were an inspiration to her family of love and loyalty.

Ardith’s grace and class along with her devotion, love, loyalty and faith will continue to bring smiles of joy forever to her friends and family.

Parents, Maurice and Alice Burton; brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Jannette Burton; husband, Robert L. Hammond; and son, Brian T. Hammond preceded Ardith in death.

Ardith’s surviving family includes: brother, Bob (Judy) Burton; daughters, Cindy (Mike) Carpenter and Tammy (Kent) Reimers; grandchildren, Jennifer Harvey, Jon Carpenter, Matthew Hammond, Jeremy Hammond, Cameron (Hannah) Reimers, Taryn (Nate) Reichter; great-grandchildren, Austin Harvey, Taner Harvey, Jake Reutter, Hunter Reimers, Carson Reimers, Renae Reichter, and Rollins Reichter; great-great-grandson, Eli Harvey and many nieces and nephews.
