Celestine “Sally” Fisher

BOONE, Iowa—Celestine “Sally” Fisher, 100, of Boone, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone.

Celestine Agatha “Sally” (Schieffer) Fisher was born the 1st of 6 children to Agatha (Uhing) Schieffer and Peter J. Schieffer on January 18, 1924. Her childhood was spent on farms near Menominee and Fordyce in Cedar County, Nebraska.

As a young lady, Sally worked in the surgical supplies department at St. Joseph and St. Vincent Hospitals in Sioux City, IA. After a mission at St. Joseph’s Church, she met Robert A. “Bob” Fisher, who was working in Sioux City for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. They were married in Ponca, Nebraska, on April 8, 1947.

During their 63 years together, the family lived in Carroll, Scranton, Wall Lake, Mason City, and Boone, Iowa. Sally volunteered as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader and worked at Mercy Hospital in Mason City and at Ledges Manor and Boone High School in Boone. Her hobbies included baking, quilting, making Christmas crafts and collecting folk art nativities. She was thankful for her friends from work, Chicago Northwestern, Sacred Heart Church and OES. Sally and Bob enjoyed family vacations, travel, winters in south Texas and visiting with friends and family.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Carman Bohlsen; four brothers Duane, Fr. Stanley, Peter Jr., and DelRay Schieffer; husband Bob and son, Richard J.

Surviving and remembering her with love and admiration are children Barbara Dembinski of Des Plaines, IL, Margaret (Tom) Bradley of Johnston, IA, Deborah (Doug) Banion of Geneva, IL and Edward (Val) Fisher of Loveland, CO. Thankful for the love that was passed down to them are grandchildren, Rick (Page) and Julia Dembinski, Amanda (Max) Davis and Daniel Bradley, Nathan (Elsa) and Phillip Banion, Jamie Fisher Evans (Jess) and Lindsey Fisher; and great-grandsons, Elias Bradley and Finley Demvershel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at the Church of the Sacred Heart, 915 12th Street, Boone. Visitation is one hour before the mass at the church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Boone.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left to Sally’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com.
