BOONE, Iowa—Judy Ann Shafer, 74, of Boone, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at the Open Bible Church, 1224 Hancock Drive, Boone. Burial will be in Bass Point Cemetery, Boone.
Judy was born November 14, 1949, in Pierre, South Dakota, the daughter of John and Doramae (Peery) Heasley. She went to school in Onida, South Dakota, and graduated from Onida High School.
Judy attended the Open Bible College in Des Moines, with the intention of meeting a man that was studying to be a minister. She accomplished her goal when she met Arlen Shafer, they were united in marriage on June 14, 1968, in Onida, South Dakota.
Judy was very passionate about playing the piano, and found pleasure while wearing her sunhat, planting flowers and trees in her yard. Arlen was known to refer to the backyard as a forest. She loved to sing the hymns at church and would sing them in harmony. Judy was known not give in when someone begged for something, but once they stopped, she would do it.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arlen in 2021; grandson, Bryce Shafer; and son-in-law, Bill MacDonald.
Judy is survived by her three children, Angie MacDonald, Anissa (Chris) Hoskins and Alan Shafer; seven grandchildren, Brody (Mayra) Hoskins, Joshua Hoskins, Mikayla Hoskins, Ty Hoskins, Keri MacDonald, Lane (Lysandra) MacDonald and Kylie Shafer; one great-grandson, Jackson Reed; and sister, Janet (Doug) Welborn.
