Dolores Hein

BOONE, Iowa—Dolores “Rosie” Hein, 96, passed away at Northridge Village in Ames, Iowa, on Tuesday, September 10, 2024. She had been a resident of Northridge Village since August 2019. She was born on January 3, 1928, in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Earl E. and Agnes M. (Sebring) Rose. She was a 1945 graduate of Boone High School. In January 1947, she married Dwayne Hein at Marion Street Methodist Church in Boone.

She worked as a bookkeeper and secretary at Smart and Thrift clothing store in Ames after high school. Dolores became a Certified Home Health Aid and worked for the Nursing Services of Iowa for 11 years before retiring in 1995. She also helped Dwayne on the farm when needed.

Dolores was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Boone and was active in the Methodist Women’s Circle. She also taught Sunday School and Bible School, beginning when she was a member of Prairie Center Methodist Church in East Boone County. Dolores loved music, and in high school was in the marching band and Scotties Drum and Bugle Corp. She was an active bowler for years, played in bridge clubs, and enjoyed growing vegetables and canning yearly. She also loved reading daily and was an avid Iowa State Cyclones fan. Rosie enjoyed spending time with her family and always loved family time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwyane Hein; son, Larry Hein; son, Kevin Hein; son, Craig Hein; grandson, Brent Hein; and special friend, Bob Hitsman.

Dolores is survived by her son, David (Kathy) Hein of Boone, Iowa; 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at First United Methodist Church in Boone. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Linwood Park Cemetery following the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the First United Methodist Church in Boone or Suncrest Hospice.
