Madrid began district play in Mount Ayr on Friday, Sept. 13, and easily defeated the Raiders, 28-0. Both teams are now 2-1 overall. Madrid remains ranked No. 6 in Class A.
Senior Preston Wicker ran for 208 yards for the Tiger offense, which included 3 touchdowns. He also was 1 for 5 passing with 20 yards and 1 touchdown.
Sophomore Will Atkinson had 13 carries for 100 yards.
Junior Loken Velky snagged one reception for 20 yards and a touchdown.
Sophomore Emerson Bridgewater hit all 4 of his PATs for Madrid.
Wicker also led the Tiger defense with 6 tackles, including 1 tackle for loss. Junior Easton Halverson followed with 5.5 tackles. Additionally, Bridgewater contributed 5 tackles while Freshman Jevyn Severson recorded 1 sack.
Junior Jake Sawyer ran back 1 interception for 36 yards, and Velky ended with 1 kick return for 12 yards.
Madrid hosts Lynnville-Sully at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, for a homecoming matchup. Both teams are 2-1.
