BOONE, Iowa—Jean Marie Achenbach, 67, of Boone, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2024, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone
Jean was born October 21, 1956 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the daughter of Wilbur “Web” and Joy O. (Pitfield) Davis. She graduated with the Class of 1974 from Boone High School.
On July 25, 1980, she was united in marriage to Gary F. Achenbach in Boone.
Jean worked several years in the Boone Community School system as a secretary at the high school, middle school, Lowell Elementary and Lincoln Elementary; and as a library aide at the high school and Franklin Elementary.
Jean’s passion in life was her dog, Charlie and cat, Candy. She loved knitting and enjoyed feeding the deer, squirrels and birds. Her mother, being an English war bride following the end of WWII, gave her a strong connection to England. Jean visited England several times, connecting with her English relatives.
Jean was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, Boone and played in the bell choir for several years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant daughter, Julie Ann Marie Achenbach.
Jean is survived by her husband of 44 years, Gary F. Achenbach of Boone; two sons, Brian Achenbach of Waukee and Brent (Julie) Achenbach of Woodward; daughter, Sara Achenbach of Rochester, MN; four grandchildren and one great-grandson; and two brothers, Ken (Mary) Davis of Buda, TX and Mike Davis of Boone.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, September 19, 2024, at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, Boone. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 A.M Friday, September 20, 2024, at Augustana Lutheran Church, 309 South Greene Street, Boone. Burial will be in Bass Point Cemetery, Boone.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association or Boone County Humane Society.
