After a quiet first half, the Madrid football team broke away in the third quarter and scored a 21-0 homecoming victory over Lynnville-Sully on Friday, Sept. 20.
The game was tied, 0-0, at the half, and the Tigers scored their first touchdown midway through the third quarter and added two more in the fourth quarter.
Senior Preston Wicker rushed for 166 yards and scored all 3 touchdowns while junior Easton Halverson also had 5 carries for 30 yards.
Additionally, Wicker passed well, going 9 for 14 for 84 yards.
Junior Loken Velky had 6 receptions for 35 yards, and sophomore Emerson Bridgewater had a 27-yard reception and made 3 of 3 PATs.
Halverson recorded 8 tackles, including 6 solo tackles, and 1 interception. Wicker also contributed to the defense with 6.5 tackles.
Velky and sophomore Will Atkinson also had 1 fumble recovery each.
The win brings Madrid to 3-1 on season and 2-0 in district play. Lynnville-Sully falls to 2-2 overall and 1-1 district play.
The Tigers travel to Earlham (3-1) Friday, Sept. 27, for another district game.
