The Boone football team held its own at No. 3, Class 4A Gilbert as the teams were tied, 14-14, at the half.
However, the Tigers pulled away in the third quarter and were able pull off a 35-21 homecoming victory against Toreadors on Friday, Sept 20.
Junior Jude Baumgardner led the Boone offense going 14 for 21 with 11 passing yards and 1 passing touchdown.
Baumgardner also contributed 30 rushing yards on 12 carries for 1 touchdown.
Senior Lucas Boucher scampered for 42 rushing yards on 13 attempts and caught a 22-yard pass.
Senior Dylan Bolton grabbed 10 passes for 158 yards and 1 touchdown.
Others contributing to the offensive output were junior Tate Hollenkamp with a 4-yard reception and senior Tyson Shivers with 2 receptions for 15 yards.
The Toreador tacklers were led by senior Pedro Gonzales with 4 tackles and Shivers with 4 tackles and 1 fumble recovery.
Additionally, Bolton had 3 tackles, junior Wesley Sharp ended with 3 tackles, and junior Dayne Garrett had 3 tackles.
Bolton handled the kicking duties and had 3 kick returns for 57 yards and was 3 for 3 on PATs.
The loss brings Boone to 3-1 on the season. The competition remains strong as the Toreadors begin district play at 3-1 Adel-DeSoto-Minburn, which is rated No. 10 in Class 4A, on Friday, Sept. 27.
