BOONE, Iowa—Carmen Kay Kokemiller, 64, of Boone, Iowa, passed away at Boone County Hospital on Saturday, September 21, 2024. She was born on March 28, 1960, in Webster City, Iowa, the daughter of Virgil and Myrna (Kilstofte) Kokemiller.

Carmen graduated from Boone High School in 1979. She started working in a nursing home her senior year of high school, which was her life’s calling and career. Carmen was quiet, very kind, and never wanted to be the center of attention. Working as a Nurse’s Aide was just a good “fit”.

Carmen had been a member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone since 1972. She had a strong faith and read the scriptures daily. She was an avid reader, journal keeper, and a pet lover, especially cats. She was a TV watcher, particularly enjoying Looney Tunes Cartoons! She followed many animal videos on her tablet and could often be heard laughing out loud while watching them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Myrna Kokemiller and Virgil Kokemiller, both in 2010.

Carmen is survived by one sister, Connie Kokemiller of Boone; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; as well as her faithful cats, Willie and Nelson. They were joys in her life.

Carmen donated her organs to the Iowa Donor Network. She was a recipient of two donor eardrums as a teenager and wanted to give back to someone else in need, always remembering the gift someone gave to her at a young age.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be prior to the service from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at Linwood Park Cemetery following the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Boone Area Humane Society or to the family to use at their discretion.
