BOONE, Iowa—D. Jerry Godwin, age 89, of Boone, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at the Boone County Hospital.
A Masonic Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, September30, 2024 at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at 6th and Marshall Streets in Boone. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Burial will be in the Bass Point Cemetery.
Born on June 15, 1935 in Boone, Jerry was the son of Willard and Etta (Browning) Godwin. He grew up in rural Boone and attended Boone High School. Jerry was united in marriage to Rose Miller in 1953, and together they had two children, Gayla and Kevin. The couple later divorced.
Jerry worked in the Fareway Warehouse, owned Godwin’s Grocery and Meat Locker, and retired after working in the Maintenance Department at River Valley Care Facility.
He enjoyed woodworking, collecting old bar signs, and he especially loved his 1962 Studebaker convertible. He was extremely social and loved to gather with his friends at the Adobe Lounge where he met the love of his life, Patty Heath. She made him the best version of himself and they passed away within a few hours of each other.
Jerry is survived by his daughter, Gayla (Michael) Harken of Camdenton, MO; his son, Kevin (Sharon) Godwin of Sioux City; two granddaughters, Jessica (Ryan) Brakke and their son, Charlie of Grimes and Andrea Karr and her son, Collin of Springfield, MO; and many extended relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents.
