Curtis Dale Cox

BOONE, Iowa—Curtis Dale Cox, Jr., 79, of Boone, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, Boone. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, west of Boone.

Curtis Dale Cox, Jr. was born April 9, 1945, in Boone, the son of Curtis, Sr. and Vera (Hansen) Cox. He graduated from Boone High School and lived his whole life in Boone.

Dale met a young lady, Bonnie Lorrie Fuller, at a Friday night football game and that is where it all began. On March 27, 1965, Dale and Bonnie were united in marriage at the First United Methodist Church in Boone. To this union were two children, Douglas and Sarah. After almost 56 years of marriage, Bonnie passed away from cancer in 2021.

Dale worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 36 years. He had a passion for trains, hot rods and drag racing. Dale attended numerous car shows and could always be found admiring the big locomotives when they came through Boone. He and Bonnie did some traveling to see family, and some of the most memorable trips were on Amtrak. Dale was a huge Hawkeye fan and was very multi-talented and artistic. He made infinity lights, did macrame, and put together many model cars.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bonnie; brother, Robert Clifton; sister, June Ward; and Bonnie’s cat, Mamie Eisenmeower.

Dale is survived by his son, Douglas Cox of Boone; daughter, Sarah Costa of Ankeny; grandchildren, Noah Costa, Kasey Costa and Chase Webb; and uncle, Clifton (Charlene) Cox of Ogden.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left to Dale’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com.
