BOONE, Iowa—The Boone Park Board initiated a “Dead Tree Removal Day” in Herman Park and the north portion of McHose Park last Thursday. Six local tree service companies volunteered their time, staff and equipment.

R&W Power also gifted a case of bar oil to each of the tree companies.
Susan Thorngren, Park Board Commissioner, told the City Council this week that 26 trees were removed and 20 stumps were ground. Trees removed were ash trees, large oak trees and pine trees. Thorngren reported that 20 community members, including surrounding neighbors, many Boone County RSVP volunteers, several Boone Rotary Club members and local PEO women who guarded the barricades at the bike path and entrances to Herman Park. Twelve members of The Boone Evangelical Free Church prepared food for lunch, Boone Hy-Vee donated burgers and water and two Park Board Commissioners donated extra burgers and Picket Fence ice cream. Park Board and Park Foundation members served lunch to the 31 tree service volunteers and five City Park employees. Following are a number of photos of those involved with the effort.
