BOONE, Iowa—Lyle Gerard McGlynn, 76, of Boone, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
Lyle was born July 12, 1948, in Boone, to Donald and Viola (McCoy) McGlynn. He attended United Community School, graduating in 1966, and then attended the Iowa Barber College. He served 4 years in the Unites States Air Force, being stationed in Turkey for 2 years. Lyle then attended DMACC, receiving his associates degree. In 1971, he met Colleen Jones, and they were joined in holy matrimony on August 18, 1973. They had three boys whom they raised in Boone County.
Lyle was very proud of his family, and his Cyclones. He was also passionate about his farm, which has been a family farm for over 150 years.
Lyle worked at ISU for almost 40 years, where he retired from. He later returned to the workforce at McFarland Clinic, where he worked another 9 years. Lyle and Colleen loved to travel, often taking their grandchildren with them. Branson, MO, was their favorite, but they later learned to love tropical beaches and Las Vegas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Vi McGlynn; wife, Colleen McGlynn; several in-laws and many beloved pets.
Lyle is survived by his three sons, Eric (Keri) McGlynn of Maquoketa, IA, Tim McGlynn and Brian McGlynn both of Boone; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; siblings, Fran Frazier of Boone, Leo McGlynn of Ames, Kay (Don) Adams of Gilbert, and Veronica Nystrom of Boone; and several nieces and nephews. Lyle had many friends and coworkers who he loved and respected and will be missed dearly.
Visitation will be Monday, October 14, 2024, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, Boone, the family encourages everyone to wear ISU colors. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at the Church of the Sacred Heart, 915 12th Street, Boone. Cremation will take place after the mass.
