BOONE, Iowa—Nadia J. (Smith) Goldsworth passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at the Boone County Hospital in Boone, Iowa. She was born June 28, 1931, at home in Luther, Iowa. Her parents were Roy and Ethel (Page) Smith. She attended school in Luther and graduated in 1949 from Luther High School. On September 13, 1952, Nadia was united in marriage to Paul L. Goldsworth of Boone, Iowa at the Christian Church in Luther, Iowa. They made their family home in Boone where they raised their four children.
Nadia and Paul owned Goldsworth Upholstery for many years and enjoyed working on projects together. She also made several t-shirt and jean quilts for family and friends. Sewing and quilting projects were always underway in her home. Nadia was well known for baking cookies for family and friends. We all looked forward to her cookies!
She served as a past president of the Officers Wives Auxiliary of the Iowa National Guard, Church Women United, Central Christian Church Women Fellowship, Heritage Quilt Club and volunteered for several years at the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad.
In their early years Nadia and Paul enjoyed camping with their children. After their retirement, they traveled to 49 states and Canada in their motorhome. They also lived in southern Utah for over 10 years before moving back to Boone in 2002.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Paul L. Goldsworth in January of 2006; parents, Roy & Ethel (Page) Smith; sisters, Anene O’Neil and Gearldean Woollard; brothers, Eldon and Everett Smith.
Nadia is survived by her four children, Carol Mayers, Kathleen (Rick) Mickelson, Danny (Paula) Goldsworth and Tim Goldsworth; grandchildren, Mark (Ashley) Saikkonen, Brenda (Matt) Briggs, Justin (Abby) Mickelson, Jenny (Cody) Warrick, and Sarah (Charlie) Eastlund; great-grandchildren, Ada and Samuel Briggs, Jackson, Brody, and Grace Warrick, Thomas, William, Elin, and Johnathon Eastlund and Maddie Rosol; several nieces and nephews; a cousin; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Central Christian Church, 803 Greene Street, Boone, with visitation starting at 11:00 AM and a short memorial service and luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be given to the Central Christian Church, 803 Greene Street, Boone, Iowa 50036.
