Katelyn Brandhorst won the Class 1A state qualifying meet, and the Madrid girls cross country team qualified for the state tournament on Thursday, October 24, at Manly.
The Tigers came out on top with 37 points.
Katelyn Brandhorst was the first across the line in a time of 19:11.3.
Madelyn Grothus ended 3rd in 19:33.4, and Hannah Brandhorst finished 7th in 20:03.7.
In addition, Adelyn White placed 17th in 22:11.9, and Mila Grothus was 20th in 22:22.9.
The Madrid girls will run in the Class 1A state meet at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, at Kennedy Park in Fort Dodge.
Madrid boys finish 6th at state qualifier
The Madrid boys finished in the middle of the pack at the state qualifying meet.
The Tigers were 6th with 153 points. Lake Mills won the meet with 34 points.
Blake Renze was the top Tiger finishing in 13th place in 17:58.5.
Caleb Berberich placed 32nd in 18:57, and Brody Buck was right behind in 24th in 19:05.2.
Additionally, Cavin Pehl was 37th in 19:08.3, and Kris Petersen finished 45th in 19:28.0.
Teams competing at Manly included Madrid, Wapsie Valley (Fairbank), St. Edmond (Fort Dodge), Newman Catholic (Mason City), Saint Ansgar, Nashua-Plainfield, West Hancock (Britt) (girls), Lake Mills (boys), North Butler (Greene) (boys), North Iowa (Buffalo Center) (boys), Central Springs (Manly) (boys), and Riceville (boys).
