BOONE, Iowa—Glen Douglas Forster, 82, of Boone, went to be in the presence of the Lord on November 5, 2024, at the Boone County Hospital. He had been residing at home with his favorite nurse… his wife, Carol.
Glen was born on September 30, 1942, the 3rd of three children, to Clarence and Freda (Menough) Forster in Boone, Iowa. He attended grade school at Trinity Lutheran and continued to Boone High School, graduating with the class of 1960. He then enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard and served from 1960-68.
In 1963, he was united in marriage with Carol Ann Zanker, and to that union, God blessed them with three children… Jeffrey Gregg, Michael Glen, and Brenda Lynn.
Glen eventually found his calling at the John Deere Ankeny Works, in several different settings, until settling in as a Building Repairman for the duration of his career. He retired from Deere in 1998. Some of his favorite pastimes were shooting pool (8-ball, 9-ball & snooker), shuffleboard, hunting, golf, and home repair (not always by choice). He enjoyed college and pro football for most of his life, with the Iowa Hawkeyes and Green Bay Packers being his favorite. He and Carol also loved to go to car shows or take rides in their ’55 Chevy. He also loved to sing, performing in bands in high school and later, and for anyone who would listen after that! 😀
His greatest struggle in life, however, was with alcoholism. Nothing seemed to pull him away from it until… he hit his knees and cried out to the Lord! He’s always said, “When I opened my eyes and got up, the weight had been lifted from his shoulders”! You’d best believe it, too… He never drank beer or liquor again. He would not be ashamed of this obituary because he freely shared his testimony with anyone, anytime, anyplace… with his only goal to help a person who wanted to face their addiction head-on.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Rod.
Left behind with fond memories are his wife, Carol Forster of Boone, IA; sister, Carol Lynn (Dale) Crouse of Boone, IA; son, Jeff (Mary Beth Scott) Forster of Boone, IA; son, Mike Forster of Boone, IA; daughter, Brenda (Bo) Hakanson of Grundy Center, IA; grandchildren: Gunnar (Grace) Forster of Ankeny, IA, Jaden Hakanson of Grundy Center, IA, and Hollie Wu, and her daughter Jennie of Cedar Falls, IA; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A private family service will take place at a later date. Interment of the cremains will be at Boone Memorial Gardens, next to his parents and brother. Memorials may be made to the Francis Steele Post 817, VFW at 815 Keeler Street in Boone.
