BOONE, Iowa—Lovey Mae Mondt, 97, of Boone, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone. She was born on August 20, 1927, in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Charles F. Budd and Helen Louise (Patten) Budd. She graduated from Boone High School in 1945.
On June 8, 1947, Lovey married Norman “Gene” Mondt at the First United Methodist Church in Boone. She later attended Iowa State University and graduated with a History Degree. Lovey worked for the Iowa Department of Social Services, Boone County DHS, for 10 years, then later for the Woodward Resource Center, retiring in 1990.
Lovey was an over 50-year member of the Boone First United Methodist Church and the Methodist Church Women. She was in a Pinochle Club with friends from 1951-2009, was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and was in the Maji Chapter #139. She was also a member of Beta Siga Phi, Phi Theta Kappa, and the Kappa 20th Chapter.
Lovey enjoyed horseback riding, camping, fishing, dancing, playing cards, and entertaining friends and family. She also enjoyed gardening, growing flowers and herbs, taking bus tours, and Amtraking.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman “Gene” Mondt; mother, Helen (Patten) Fenton; father, Charles F. Budd; and sister, Dorothy (Budd) Ahrens.
Lovey is survived by her daughter, Karen (Randy) Johnson of Ogden, IA; grandchildren: Krista Rasmussen-Kinkennon of Ogden, IA, and Shane Rasmussen (Gray Morrell) of Los Angeles, CA; bonus grandchildren: Cindy (Lee) Judge of Grayville, IL, Michael (Dana) Johnson of Waltonville, IL, and MaryKay (Troy) McNeely of Marshall, IL; ten great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 18, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church in Boone, with Pastor Adam Gordon officiating. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery west of Boone following the funeral service. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be prior to the service from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Boone.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Boone First United Methodist Church or the Boone Area Humane Society.
