Boone girls opening wrestling season at Fort Dodge

The Boone girls wrestling team opened its season at the Fort Dodge Early Bird tournament on Thursday, November 21. 

Poppy Malone and Cadence Heggen placed 1st at the meet. 

At 105 pounds, Malone won by fall over Eden Geddings of Algona twice. 

At 190 pounds, Heggen beat Brooklynn Elliott of Boone by decision, won by technical fall over Alyssa Kirch of Boone and won by fall over Kennedy Robinson of Humboldt. 

Elliott and Kira Majak placed 2nd for the Toreadors. 

Also at 190 pounds, Elliott lost to Heggen by decision, won by fall over Robinson, and  won by fall over Kirsch. 

At 155 pounds, Majak won by fall over Emerysyn Zehner of Boone, Won by fall over Dayton Cleghorn of Humboldt and lost to Regan Jensen of Algona by fall. 

Others competing at the meet include Averie Strollo (120), Johanna Meeks (125), Paisley Lautner (135), Abbie Moliter (140), Natalie Thompson (155), Emerysyn Zehner (155), Claire Thompson (170), and Alissa Kirsch (190). 

Teams at the meet were Algona, Boone, Des Moines Hoover, Eagle Grove, Fort Dodge and Humboldt. 

The Toreadors wrestle at 9  a.m. on Saturday, November 23, at the Central Iowa Kickoff Tournament in Nevada.
