Madrid girls lose home basketball opener

The Madrid girls’ basketball team lost to Ackley-Geneva-Wellsburg-Steamboat Rock, 55-28, Friday, November 22, at Madrid. 

Leading the Tigers was Samanth Springer who had 13 points. She was 5 for 8 on field goals and 3 for 5 on 3-pointers. 

Laura Eagleton scored 9 points on 3 field goals, 2 3-pointers and 1 free throw. 

Jillian Olmstead had 4 points and was 2 for 2 on field goals. 

Audrey Brown added 2 assists, while Springer and Olmstead had 1 assist each. 

For Madrid’s defense, Olmstead had rebounds 6, 2 of which were offensive rebounds. 

Additionally, Eagleton added 5 rebounds, and Dvorak had 4 rebounds. 

The Tigers start the year 0-1. 

Madrid travels to Garwin to play Green Mountain-Garwin at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26.
