Heggen places 2nd at Central Iowa Varsity Kickoff

The Boone girls wrestling team sent 4 varsity wrestlers to the Central Iowa Varsity Kickoff on Saturday, November 23, in Nevada. 

Cadence Heggen placed 2nd at 190 pounds, and Poppy Malone placed 5th at 105 pounds. 

McKayla Silbaugh competed at 135 pounds, while Kira Majak competed at 155 pounds. 

Heggen received a bye in round 1 and won by fall in round 2. She also won by fall in the quarterfinal and semifinals to advance to the finals. Josie Bishop of Southeast Polk won by fall over Heggen in the finals, giving Heggen 2nd place. 

Malone received a bye in round 1 and won by fall in round 2. She was defeated by major decision in the quarterfinal round and won by major decision in the consolation round. Malone won by decision over Jenna Randall of West Marshall and secured 5th place. 

Silbaugh lost by decision in round 1 and received a bye in the consolation round. She won by fall in consolation round 2 and won by medical forfeit in consolation round 3. In her final consolation match, Silbaugh won by fall over Kate Melody of Gilbert. 

Majak received a bye in Round 1 and was defeated by fall in Round 2. She lost by fall to Rylie Love of Carlisle in Consolation Round 2. 

More than 30 schools from across the state competed in Nevada. 

The Toreadors have a break and next compete in the Woodward-Granger tournament on Friday, December 6.
