BOONE, Iowa—The Boone Fire Department and firefighters from Gilbert, Kelley and Story City spent about six hours fighting a residential fire in eastern Boone County Monday afternoon and evening. The Boone Fire Department responded to the call about 2:30 p.m. in the 2300 area of 170th Street near the Boone Story County Line Road. Boone Fire reported that they called for mutual aid almost right away and the Gilbert Fire Department arrived on the scene about the same time. The Kelley Fire Department and Story City Fire Department joined a short time later. Water had to be transported to the site from Gilbert. The family was displaced but no injuries were reported. The cause continues to be investigated. Boone County records indicate the home is owned by Jacob and Ida Kraayenbrink.
The Boone Fire Department was assisted by the Gilbert, Kelley and Story City Fire Departments, Boone County Emergency Management, the Boone County Hospital Ambulance Service, the Boone County Sheriff’s Department and the Iowa State Patrol. The Boone Fire Department did return to the scene of the fire about 6:15 a.m. Tuesday when the fire began to rekindle.
