Boone girls lose to rated Gilbert

The Boone girls’ basketball team lost a Raccoon River Conference contest to Class 4A, No. 7, Gilbert, 68-40, Friday, December 13, in Boone. 

The 1st half remained tight with the Tigers up 11-8 after the 1st quarter and up 23-17 at the half. 

Gilbert exploded scoring 29 points in the 3rd quarter and led, 52-26, at the end of the 3rd quarter and won the game, 68-40. 

Macy Chesnut led the Toreadors with 15 points on 5 field goals, 3 3-pointers and 2 free throws. 

Shannon Jenkins had 8 points and was a perfect 3 for 3 on field goals, including 2 for 2 on 3-pointers. 

Sydney Adams also scored 8 points on 2 field goals, 1 3-pointer and 3 free throws. 

Addie Tungesvik contributed 2 assists. 

For the defense, Ava Johnson led with 7 rebounds while Maleah Shivers had 6 rebounds and 1 steal. 

The loss drops Boone to 0-2 in the conference and 3-3 overall. Gilbert is 1-1 in the conference and 4-1 overall. 

The Toreadors host Carroll (0-2, 2-2) at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17, in Boone.
